Strength in Body & Mind

My fitness journey started way back in grade school. Some of my earliest memories are of my dad lifting weights in his weight room he made in the basement. I was always fascinated by what he did, and I knew I wanted to start lifting weights, too. Little did I know that getting in shape at such a young age was going to make all the difference in the future.

Now, lets flash forward to my high school years. At the start of my Junior year, I became ill and didn't get better after several weeks. In fact, I was getting worse and it got to the point where I could hardly move around. This was awful because I felt like everything I had worked so hard for in strength training was rapidly going away. Needless to say, with no improvement in my condition on the horizon, I was finally taken to the local hospital.

Once I was admitted into the local hospital, I was put through a battery of tests for every illness imaginable. Despite all of this, the local doctors still couldn't quite figure out what was going on. It was thought that the best solution was to transport me off to a big hospital in the city. It wasn't until I was there that they found out I had a blood clot in my portal vein. One simple blood clot caused a lot of damage and resulted in multiple operations before I could be released. All of this time in the hospital cost me my Junior year of high school and I was forced to drop out. I'll never forget spending the holidays in the hospital. It's humbling to say the least and really makes you thankful for what you have.

While in the hospital, I quickly found out just how important your health truly is. It's something money simply can't buy: it's priceless. The best thing that truly helped me through all the illness and surgeries was the physical shape I was in. The doctors told me that they performed several surgeries they normal don't do because they are a higher risk; however, they felt I could recover better because I had taken care of my body with strength training.

To this day, I swear by the benefits that staying in shape can do for you. It helps me at my job as a fire fighter and lets me enjoy all that life has to offer. Knowing this, I wanted to help others see the value in fitness. While working full time, I started college and didn't stop until I received my Master of Science in kinesiology. Once I obtained this, it was time to set another goal of opening up my own gym. And that's when Elite Endurance was born!
