3 Things to get your Beach Body in time for Summer: Part 1

Every year when the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, people head to the beach to relax, have fun, and just cool off in the water. I know this may sound terrible, but how many times have you looked around at the beach and thought, Man I need to get back in shape. Guessing, I would say we all have thought or felt that way once or twice before. This post will be part 1 on this subject. In part 2, I will give a sample workout to help you get great results.

So, what can you do to get in better shape quickly? Truth be told, nothing in fitness will ever happen quickly (except getting out of shape).  However, there are 3 things you can do to get back on track towards the beach body you want.

I will list them in order of importance:

  • Proper Nutrition

  • Strength Training

  • Cardiovascular Training

Nutrition without a doubt is the most important part of your overall success. You will never be able to out exercise your poor eating habits no matter how hard you try. Crash diets may give you fast results, but is the diet one you can maintain for the rest of your life? I would bet it is probably not.

The next two can be argued all day on which one is more important. Both strength and cardiovascular training are great, but if you can combine both in a single workout, you will get the best results. However, if you can only squeeze one in per day, I would go with strength training for a few reasons. First, it will give you more lean body mass versus fat mass. A leaner body mass means a higher metabolism, which in turn, burns more calories through out the entire day. Second, you can cut down your rest between strength exercises and receive a cardiovascular workout as well. A common term for this is High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT.

So, to recap for everyone, the 3 important things to get your beach body ready are proper nutrition, strength training, and cardiovascular training. In my next post I will give you a sample workout on types of strength and cardiovascular training you can do for great results.
